Rock and Roll Massage? How one therapist has synched music and massage.

"Discovering Bands on a Massage Table" - from the Wall Street Journal

"At first listen, the strong drumming and beats of Heart’s “Barracuda” and Led Zepplin’s “When the Levee Breaks” don’t lend themselves to soothing relaxation. But bliss spa massage therapist Ben Brown is set to change that notion. Those songs, among roughly a dozen others, make up his “rhythm & bliss” rock playlist, the starting point for his 75-minute music based massage. The other original playlists clients may select are  world, classical or electronica, each of which contain a separate set of body work Mr. Brown incorporates into the service.

Introduced this month at the four bliss spa locations in Manhattan and Hoboken, the “rhythm & bliss” servicealso has clients wear noise-cancelling headphones to help emphasize the music, according to Mr. Brown."

"It came from the idea of following the melody. I extend a stroke with a beat. I do a lot of forearm work, so in that sense there is some choreography but it is loose, it’s the idea of figuring out how your work can be informed by the music and how the music can enhance your work. "
